The TH female soccer players played the Best Season in my life for soccer yesterday.
I was still having jitters the night before wondering
what if,
what if we couldn't defend the championship title for the fourth year.
This is our pride and joy for playing for the hall.
Looking at the scoreboard there is pressure to win the title for the 6 points that we need to maintain the lead over other halls.
And of course people are expecting us to win.
And we did.
Spectacularly.
Our first game was against Raffles Hall.
Thus started out winning
Even though Raffles Hall isn't known for its soccer (or any other sports, except handball) we didn't let up on our game and Weide called his first team for the first line-up.
We were feeling a little relaxed because it is RH.
We were reminded not to be complacent because complacency will lead to failure.
So in the game we were relentless.
Goals after goals went in due to the spontaneity of sheryl and eliza, they make the game look so easy.
So many goals happened that we lost count ourselves.
Later at night during team dinner, Weide said that RH underestimated their opponents la..
I just checked the results and it is indeed 6-0 won against RH.
The next game was one of our crucial games: TH vs KR.
KR and EH were our strongest opponents in this tournament and they were as eager to eat us up as we were to eat them up.
These two teams each had Inter-Varsity Games players with them and they were definitely not to be taken lightly.
KR vs EH yielded results of 1:0.
Which meant that KR would win the season if they beat us.
Which meant they were extra hungry to eat us!
We were all psyched up too after lunch (it made us lethargic and sleepy, next time don't eat during lunch break), recognizing that this game was make or break.
But I have to say, our players are really good.
Even though we didn't have to IVP players, the TH sporty girls who play an average of 4 sports each were very fit and had great ball sense.
We tried and tried and tried but just couldn't score, the KR team was playing a very defensive game.
After the game we were glum as if we just lost like that.. Slap everybody.
It ended with 0:0.
The next game was another triumph against KE7 which ended with 4:0.
Anybody watching us play must be damn scared.
hahaha.
The most exciting game of the season - TH vs EH.EH team has 3 IVP players and they are all very fit and fast and skilled and scary.
I think this EH which wears yellow has conditioned me to associate yellow with
Bloodlust. This word came from Gabriel who during his pep talk before the game told us to be more aggressive because EH just lost to KR and EH would be SOOOOOO hungry to eat us.
He shared with us his experiences when he played with EH in previous Interhall games:
" An animal would just come out from me when I play with EH. Its another side of me that comes out. "
Good one.
And very true!
During both the touch rugby game and soccer when our team met with EH, this bloodlust mode was automatically switched on, just like how a shark acts when he smells blood.
I think the best games played during soccer and touch was both against EH, when we stepped up our game, gave 100% concentration x 100% hunger for blood/goal.
If I didn't remember wrongly, the goal against EH came when we took a corner kick, and sheryl ZAM the ball in when the keeper's hold on the ball slipped.
Happiest moment in the season.
That sort of determined our place in tournament with the win in the following game against sheares which I'm too lazy to type.
The freshies this year are very enterprising including sheryl and Serene the doctor who is a superb player, she's fit, skilled, plays intelligently and covers for her less able players.
Sporty girls: Eliza, Shin, Amelia, Belly, Weilin and omg almost forgot, the keeper Bridgitte is damn Zai! She saved our asses many times.
The team is zai.
